February's full moon is known as the Budding Moon, Quickening Moon, Hunger Moon, Storm Moon, Ice Moon, and Snow Moon in various Native American and Chinese traditions.

February's full moon may be closest to the first sign of spring, and Lunar New Year. It is usually the first full moon of the lunar calendar. On this day, Asian cultures celebrate the Lantern Festival, letting go of the past year and illuminating our best wishes for the new year to come with colorful red lanterns. Lantern Festival marks the end of the traditional Lunar New Year celebration, which begins at the first new moon of the lunar year and continues for two weeks until the first full moon of the lunar year.

Drawing completed of fragrant Daphne Odora in my Oregon backyard. Daphne is one of the first flowers to bloom at the end of winter.

The original drawing is framed and mounted on handmade paper I created for the 1000 Moons project.
