Hesitancy
Posted on · Categories PaintingsI recently started work on a large, complex watercolor painting using a composite of three reference photographs taken from different angles. I spent three days staring at the completed sketch before I had the courage to touch paint to paper. Whether for an instant or an hour, there is always a gathering moment when I have to overcome the uncertainty: can I do this? The uncertainty is strongest at the beginning of a project, but continues to present itself with every decision I make during the creative process.
Do what will work, or try something different? Pushing through that hesitancy towards something new is when I know I’m growing as an artist.
