After two years immersed in the endless possibilities of clay, glass, metals, darkroom photography and relief printmaking, I still found it a joy to return to watercolor for my first full studio painting since 2014. “Surfacing” is a half-sheet 14″ x 22″ watercolor of an octopus between sky and sea. The painting was completed in 12 hours over the course of 8 sessions, with each session documented here:
